Hunting with Prunty Ranch Outfitters

A dry, rocky hillside with sparse vegetation and small shrubs in the foreground, and rolling hills with scattered trees and a dense forest of tall, dark evergreens in the background, under a gray overcast sky.

Since our hunting/outfitting business is part of our working ranch operation, all hunting trips are subject to availability according to the ranch's fall works schedule and are booked on a first come, first serve basis.

Our History

Black and white photos: One of a person holding a deer head with antlers, another of a man standing next to a horse with a man sitting on the horse on ranch land, and a third of three men posing with deer antlers in front of a vintage truck, labeled '1949 Prunty Ranch, Nev'.

Hunting has been a part of the Prunty Ranch since the late 1940s, when Shorty Prunty started guiding mule deer hunters as one of the very first licensed master guides in the state of Nevada.

Shorty and Marge raised their sons, Dick and Gary, on the ranch, working alongside the cowboys and haying crews, and helping during hunting season.

Two black and white vintage photos showing boys with deer antlers. The first photo has a boy sitting with a dog in front and a girl on horseback in the background. The second photo shows two boys holding deer antlers outdoors.
Three images featuring hunters with deer and a rocky and forested landscape.

Shorty and his sons guided for many years, and in turn, they shared the love of the outdoors and a good adventure with the next generation.

Today, the family remains one of only three outfitting services permitted to guide in the Jarbidge Wilderness area, Nevada hunt area 071 and Nevada hunt area 072, offering:

Side-by-side photos of people riding horses in outdoor settings. The left photo shows a person riding horses on a foggy, snowy trail. The right photo shows a group of people with horses in a dry, mountainous landscape.

Unique location & available facilities:

The home ranch is ideally situated in the heart of Nevada hunt areas 071 and 072, which have produced a multitude of outstanding big game animals through the years and are often considered “hunt of a lifetime” territory.

Experienced guides & horses:

Our guides are horsemen and experienced hunters themselves. They are deeply familiar with the areas we hunt and game movement patterns. Our horses are used for ranch work throughout the year.

Personalized, quality experience:

With the outfitting business being only one aspect of the ranch’s operation, we do not operate as an “assembly line outfitting” business and accept only a limited number of clients.
